Transition to Retirement pension

What is a Transition to Retirement (TTR) pension?

A Transition to Retirement (TTR) pension gives you a regular, tax-effective income while you’re still working provided you have reached your preservation age and are under 65.

How does it work?

There are three main ways the TTR works. You can either:

  1. Reduce the hours you work and top up your income from your TTR pension, or
  2. Keep working the same hours, sacrifice some of your salary into your super to receive a tax benefit and top up your income with your TTR pension, or
  3. Use your TTR to reduce debt pre-retirement.

For more information, see the Transition to Retirement Factsheet.

How can I get a TTR pension?

If you’ve reached your preservation age and you’re aged under 65, you can access your super as a Transition to Retirement (TTR) pension. Money is invested in your choice of investment options with a pension paid to you for as long as there is enough money in your account. You can apply for a Club Plus Pension after reading the Pension PDS and then using the form at the back. You may want to consider consulting a qualified financial adviser.

Can I also receive the Age Pension?

You may also be able to receive a partial Age Pension while you are receiving your Club Plus Pension. Read about the Centrelink treatment of pensions in the Pension PDS below. You may want to consult a qualified financial adviser to ensure you maximise your retirement benefits.
