Let’s talk about mental health

More than ever before, all of us need to make our mental health and wellness a priority. And as an employer, you can play an important role in helping your employees do just that.

Making mental health a priority

At Club Plus Super we’re dedicated to helping employers create supportive work environments and establish valuable employee wellbeing initiatives – something Ramsgate RSL Club has done well for years which has been further enriched by their workshops. Watch this video to find out more and hear from Shane Skeen, one of our member services managers, on why mental health is so important to him.

Meet Shane

Having lost his father to suicide at a young age, Shane is a passionate mental health advocate. He has worked for Club Plus Super since 2015 and is committed to supporting the employers and employees of Australia’s club and hospitality industry. Shane is our self-appointed ‘Positivity Ambassador’ also supports several organisations and initiatives:

Member Services Managers

At Club Plus Super we are dedicated to giving our members and employers the personal support and service they need to manage their superannuation.

Mental distress and financial stress can often go hand in hand. Our team of member services managers (MSM) have recently undertaken training which covers recognising and responding to suicide risk to help them better assist members.

We also know that there has been some confusion around insurance following new government regulation as well as how COVID-19 impacts claims. Our team of MSMs are experts on our insurance products and can help you with any questions you may have.

Who are SuperFriend?

If you would like more information about how to create a healthy workplace our partners SuperFriend have some great resources. They are a national mental health organisation that partners with the superannuation and insurance industries.

SuperFriend offers a complimentary course for default Club Plus Super employers called ‘Workplace Mental Health Essentials for All Staff‘. The course provides an excellent introduction to workplace mental health and wellbeing and a strong foundation for further learning. If your organisation would like to take part please contact your local member services manager or call us on 1800 210 098 and we’ll put you in touch with SuperFriend.

You can also sign up for the SuperFriend newsletter for the latest tips on workplace mental health and explore their resources.

Mental health survey results

SuperFriend recently surveyed over 10,000 Australian workers who worked and/or received a JobKeeper payment between March and June 2020*:

  • 3 in 5 workers experienced a mental health condition this year (up 9% from 2019)
  • 27.8% said they experienced a mental health condition for the first time during the pandemic
  • 2020 delivered some surprising benefits, including increased connection, better work/life balance, and ‘turbo charged’ leadership
